INDIANA’S OLDER ADULT LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

The Indiana Mental Health and Aging Coalition concluded the 1st Older Adult Leadership Academy in May 2011. Why host a leadership academy? Indiana needs older adult consumers to advocate and give a voice to older adults affected by mental illness. The Leadership Academy was based on WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Planning) and gave participants the tools necessary to communicate and advocate effectively (with legislators, elected officials, health coverage providers, behavioral health providers, ect) on behalf of consumers with mental illness. Participants completed this intensive 3 day training and are on their way to making a positive impact in their local communities as well as in our State. Funding for the Leadership Academy was secured through the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction through the CMHS Olmstead Mental Health Grant.
